Exams SACCO Society Limited was formed in 1978 by employees of Kenya National Examinations Council.  Years later members reviewed the By-Laws to open up the common bond to include members who had exited KNEC either through retirement or to other institutions, spouses and children of members and nominees.

In June 2021 Exams Sacco changed its name to Exams Regulated Non-WDT SACCO Society Limited.  This was necessitated by the introduction of the Sacco Societies (Non-Deposit Taking Saccos) Regulations in January 2020.  The Sacco was classified as a non-deposit taking society after having met the required threshold and is now regulated by the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA).
